Tributes pour in for popular UK producer SOPHIE who suddenly passed away at 34 following a tragic accident.

Fans and celebrities are mourning the loss of DJ, producer, and singer SOPHIE after news broke that she died suddenly on January 30 following an accident. SOPHIE’s record label Transgressive HQ released a statement stating that the musician was in Athens, Greece when she “climbed up to watch the full moon and accidentally slipped and fell.”

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, SOPHIE released her first single “Nothing More to Say” back in 2013, followed by her hit song “Bipp,” which made Pitchfork’s list of the best songs of 2010-2014. She then went on to produce other hits like her 2014 single “Lemonade,” which was recognized as the third best song of 2014 by The Washington Post.

SOPHIE was also known for producing for other major artists including Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Charli XCX, Kim Petras, and more. Back in 2017, she eventually released her one and only album OIL OF EVERY PEARL’S UN-INSIDES. The album included her hit song “Ponyboy,” which gained even more popularity after being featured in Beyonce’s recent IVY PARK ad.

Around the time of her album’s release, SOPHIE revealed that she was a transgender woman and she went on to serve as an icon for trans people around the world. After hearing of her death, many fans in the LGBTQ+ community opened up about how she gave them the confidence to transition and freely be themselves without fear of judgment.

Celebs who knew and worked with SOPHIE over the years have also spoken about their shock and devastation following her passing. Legendary guitarist Nile Rodgers posted a photo of the two together and called her an “artistic treasure.” Rapper Vince Staples, who worked with SOPHIE back in 2017, also paid his respects by posting a photo with the producer.

Although her life was tragically cut short, many are glad SOPHIE got to share her talents with the world and inspire others to embrace their true selves. To keep her legacy alive, you can continue to stream SOPHIE’s album OIL OF EVERY PEARL’S UN-INSIDES.
