Stacey Abrams has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize regarding her peaceful advocacy for the voting rights of BIPOC folx.

Abrams served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 2007 to 2017 as a Democratic candidate. Her position gave her the platform to speak out about voter suppression. She began back in 2014 with the New Georgia Project. This project’s focus was to get unregistered marginalized groups of people in Georgia registered for the elections during that year.

Even after she wasn’t reelected in the Georgia House of Representatives she continued her monumental work by creating the Fair Fight action organization in 2018. Her work encourages more people in the Black community to vote in the 2020 Presidential election. They were even able to turn Georgia, which has historically been a red state, into a blue state, which aided in President Joe Biden’s victory.

The grassroots organizers handed Abrams the brightly burning torch to continue their fight for the voting rights of disenfranchised voters. Now, she proudly leads the cause with her head held high as she reminds everyone that they have a voice. She is not only an example for the community, but she is an inspiration.

Abrams being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize is a step in the right direction and brings more awareness to her cause. The passion she has for voting rights and change has ignited and will continue to ignite the flames in many women, people of color, and children to advocate for their beliefs.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner will be announced this October.
