Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis Receive Golden Globe Nomination for ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’

Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman each received a Golden Globe nomination for their work in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Golden Globe nominations were released on February 3 and the 2020 film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom has a lot to celebrate: Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman have each been nominated for their powerful performances in the film.

Boseman is up for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama. He had portrayed the character of Levee, a talented trumpet player and songwriter during the 1920’s period of blues music in Chicago. This is Boseman’s first posthumous nomination, which has left fans emotional since his tragic death in the summer 2020.

Davis is nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama. She is being nominated for playing the larger-than-life blues singer, Ma Rainey. Ma Rainey had been a force during the 1920’s blues scene in Chicago. Viola took to Twitter to share her thoughts on this nomination. The tweet read, “Humbled and flattered.” This is Davis’ sixth Golden Globe nomination; and out of those six, she has won a Golden Globe once.

The Golden Globes is set to air on February 28. Viewers can stream Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom on Netflix. This is a can’t miss performance by the late Chadwick Boseman and the incredible Viola Davis.
