‘American Idol’ Star Just Sam Will Release Her First New Single
Last year’s winner of American Idol made a huge announcement on Instagram Live about upcoming music.
On Thursday, February 4, Samantha Diaz, took to the ‘gram to share the special message we’ve all been waiting for. Known by her stage name “Just Sam,” the singer-songwriter went live on Instagram and one other social media platform to share that her first single will be uploaded and released on February 19.
On January 10 the 22-year-old singer posted to her Instagram a selfie with the caption “I’ll be back,” perhaps dropping a low-key hint of what was to come in the month ahead.
It has been a year since her victory. The world was hit with an earthshattering pandemic, making Just Sam the first-ever winner of American Idol via a remote live show. During the live stream, the star briefly discussed her struggle with producing new music this year as terrorizing events such as the killing of George Floyd rocked the nation. She affirmed she believes she is on “God’s” time therefore her music is not a day late. The vocalist’s first single will be available on all music streaming platforms.
Just Sam was crowned the winner of the eighteenth season of the American singing competition reality television series, American Idol back in May 2020. Her story of a young aspiring artist born and raised in Harlem, New York who sang in subway stations in New York City touched hearts everywhere. As recalled from her moment on Live with Kelly and Ryan she had emotionally expressed her surprise of being crowned the winner “…when you start from the very bottom and make it to the top, it’s like, that’s a whole testimony…”
Behind the scenes footage of the show airing as American Idol: This Is Me featured the star sincerely breaking down the origin of her nickname: “I go by Just Sam…Just Sam. Growing up, I was kind of a tomboy. I would switch up my style a lot. In high school, they didn’t know which category to put me in. I wasn’t a girl, not a boy, but both. And I’m like ‘Just Sam.’ You can’t tell them anything else. It sounds perfect, I think I’m going to use that as my stage name forever.”
The singer also references their identity via twitter, saying “Im beautiful on some days but I could also look very handsome. Sometimes I’m chilling with the ladies and other times I’m hanging with my homeboys.”
