Hayley Williams Releases Her Surprise New Album ‘FLOWERS for VASES / descansos’
Hayley Williams has just released her surprise album FLOWERS for VASES / descansos, her second solo project since the breakup of Paramore.
Williams is back with another album, FLOWERS for VASES / descansos, her second project released within a year. This is also her second album since the breakup of her punk-pop band Paramore.
Three years after the last Paramore album After Laughter, Williams released her first solo project Petals For Armor back in May. The album was well received and made the lists of the top 50 best albums of 2020 for Rolling Stone, Billboard and Consequence of Sound.

Now, less than a year later, Williams is back with yet another album to continue helping her fans get through the pandemic, and it was announced just a day before its release. Similar to Petals For Armor, FLOWERS for VASES / descansos is emotional, raw and heartfelt.

Descansos, meaning “breaks” in Spanish, is fitting for the album. “This isn’t really a follow-up to Petals for Armor. If anything, it’s a prequel or some sort of detour between parts 1 and 2 of Petals,” Williams said in a recent statement.
Revealed in a recent Instagram post, the album was recorded entirely in Williams’ home last year while in lockdown with her writing and recording all the songs herself. Just last month, Williams also performed her Tiny Desk Concert from home, where fans got to hear Petals for Armor songs live for the first time following the cancellation of the accompanying tour.
