Elle Fanning Shares a Sneak Peek of Motherhood in Hulu’s ‘The Great’ Season 2
Today, Elle Fanning shared a shocking first look at her character, Empress Catherine the Great, in season two of Hulu’s The Great via social media.
Fanning has deservingly been nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series for her work on The Great. Fans got a sneak peek at Empress Catherine the Great becoming a mother and the physical transformation that comes along with it, as she steps in her new role of being the ruler of Russia.
The show also has its accolades, by being the winner for a Midseason Award presented by the Hollywood Critics Association for Best New Streaming Series (Comedy) as well as a ReFrame Stamp for Top 100 Popular Television (2019-2020). In 2021, it has been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award, Golden Globe, Writers Guild of America Award, Satellite Award, Gotham Independent Film Award, Independent Spirit Award, and a Critics Choice Award.
The Great is a sarcastic, comedic drama that revolves around Catherine the Great and her rise to power. Catherine the Great is a well-known figure in Russian history for being the longest-ruling female leader. The show is loosely based on real-life and leans more towards fiction than a period piece.

In season one, a young, naive girl comes to Russia for her arranged marriage to Emperor Peter. She is taken aback by the unexpected, twisted world she has walked into. She then sets out to create change, but her husband, the church, the military, and the court stand in her way.
