Birdy Announces Alluring New Single ‘Loneliness’
Hit English singer, Birdy released the chilling music video for her single “Loneliness” on February 12.
“Loneliness,” a new single off of Birdy’s unreleased Young Heart album. The highly anticipated music video premiered on February 12. The video brings in the dark aspects of her old work, introducing what seems to be a more mature side of her.
Directed by Sophie Mueller, the video shows Birdy through a series of escapades. Starting with a dimly lit, foggy room, Birdy is swaddled in blankets. A distorted monochromatic grey face occasionally appears, quickly exchanged by the singer shaking in the cold night. Birdy appears to convey the depression and pure loneliness one can feel. This video has already racked up over 139K views on YouTube.
Guitar riffs match her caramel-like tone, complimenting her silky tone. Typically an indie-folk sound, Birdy reverberates a thicker vocal quality as she utilizes soft-rock influences. This seems to give the song a feeling of pain and hurt. Perhaps this new style will appear on Young Heart.
In an interview with Notion, Birdy discussed her time away from the spotlight and states, “I recently discovered Joni Mithcell for the first time which has changed my writing a lot [and subsequently] I’ve been playing a lot more guitar.” She continues on to share that her new album is, “very much my vision and is completely driven by me which is nice because when you’re young you don’t exactly know what you want yet.”
Young Heart is Birdy’s fourth studio album, expected to be released on April 30th. This album is the follow-up to her 2016 Beautiful Lies. Despite her hiatus, Birdy seems to have been hard at work. From painting portraits to covering Fleetwood Mac songs to writing songs, as shown in her Instagram feed.

Jasmine van den Bogaerde, aka Birdy, is a 24-year-old English singer-songwriter who hails from Lymington, United Kingdom. Grammy-nominated, she has lent her vocals to The Hunger Games soundtrack, The Fault in Our Stars soundtrack, and has composed for a plethora of other film scores. Since the age of seven, she has been writing her own music, and since fourteen, she has held record deals. Although her deeply prismatic and fragile voice gives her a talented edge, Birdy’s ability to compose music and write songs proves an incredible strength.
Notion continued on to say that Birdy, “states that in order to remain inspired you have to ‘try different things’.” Birdy’s entrancing nature appears to marvel fans on Twitter.
