Rick Ross Gives Fans a Stunning Performance With His Tiny Desk Concert
NPR is celebrating Black History Month by showcasing multiple African American musical artists; this time around, they featured a Tiny Desk concert with Rick Ross.
NPR Music has been releasing a plethora of at-home concerts since the pandemic started, and even in 2021, fans are being spoiled with free performances from their favorite artists. The Tiny Desk series has always showcased a diverse range of performers, and in light of Black History Month, they are striving to give their platform to those who represent Black culture.
On February 16, NPR released a Tiny Desk Concert with Rick Ross; the American rapper, songwriter, and record executive. Ross has been around for a while; he released his first studio album, titled Port of Miami in 2006, and is currently working on his eleventh album, titled Richer Than I’ve Ever Been. Throughout the course of his career, the rapper has been nominated for numerous awards, and in 2010, has earned a The Source Award for “Man of the Year”.

The 20-minute Tiny Desk Concert consisted of Ross performing some of his most well-recognized songs, along with his two background singers. The concert was set in a minimalist, clearly lighted gallery space, with an extravagant throne that sat in the center. Ross opened with his hit single, “Super High”, and ended with “Tears of Joy”. This was the second time he was ever seen performing with a live band, and they did each one of his songs justice; viewers could clearly see how much fun Ross and his team were having throughout his show. After his performance of “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast)”, Ross took a short break to speak on the pandemic, and how he had to cancel many of his tours. He went on to spread the positive message of starting a new year.
