Rising R&B Star Mahalia Just Released the Music Video for Her New Single ‘Jealous’ With Rico Nasty

R&B singer Mahalia has teamed up with Rico Nasty in the 90s inspired music video for their new single “Jealous.”

British-born singer Mahalia is back with her new single “Jealous,” an upbeat collab with rapper Rico Nasty. The track is a bit of a change from Mahalia’s usual sound as she transitions into the next chapter of her life and career.

At just 22-years-old, Mahalia has quickly risen to fame and achieved so much in just a few short years following the release of her debut album Diary of Me back in 2016. It was the following year when her career really began to take off after she released her hit song “Sober,” which now has over 40 million streams on Spotify.

Fans loved Mahalia’s soulful voice and unique sound, so it was no surprise that her 2019 sophomore album Love and Compromise did so well. This time around, she was able to join forces with Nigerian rapper Burna Boy for “Simmer,” and R&B star Ella Mai for their radio hit “What You Did,” which reached number 15 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart.

Since then, Mahalia has been nominated for a BRIT and she’s up for Best R&B Performance at this year’s Grammys for her feature on Jacob Collier’s “All I Need” with Ty Dolla Sign. After a hiatus, she’s now back to start the year off right with “Jealous.”

Mahalia recorded “Jealous” over the summer while dealing with challenges in her friendships and personal life. “I was dealing with friends being super unsupportive about decisions I was making and I was struggling with navigating that,” she said in a statement.

Adding Rico Nasty to the song only made it better, and the two complement each other well. “Rico Nasty is a badass and one of my favorite artists so getting her to feature was a huge moment for me,” Mahalia said.

The video was directed by Melody Maker, who drew inspiration from the 1998 film Belly. She captured the 90s aesthetic so well while delivering stunning visuals and amazing cinematography.

Mahalia and Rico Nasty are partners in crime in the video as they break into a futuristic modern mansion and wreak havoc on its owner. Fans are loving the two together and they’re glad that Mahalia has stepped out of her comfort zone with this single.
