Andy Muschietti Announces ‘The Young and The Restless’ Sasha Calle Cast as Supergirl in ‘The Flash’
Warner Bros. announced Sasha Calle as the Supergirl actress for the upcoming film, The Flash, through a Zoom call.
DC Universe announced their newest Supergirl. The franchise was in search of an actress for the upcoming film, The Flash. Via Instagram, Sasha Calle was informed by the project’s director, Andy Muschietti of her casting.
Muschietti and Calle start their Zoom call greeting in Spanish. Muschietti asks the actress if she “can fly” before waiting for her reaction. Quickly the call gets emotional as the director shows Calle a Supergirl costume. The director says, “We’re (the team) all happy and thrilled about it (the casting decision).”
Auditions for casting were done over Zoom due to COVID-19. Over 420 people auditioned for the role. During her audition, Calle brought a ‘toughness and vulnerability’ Muschietti struggled to find in others. Perhaps Calle’s take on the Girl of Steel will bring bittersweet energy.
Deadline quotes Muschietti stating, “I saw more than four hundred auditions. The talent pool was truly amazing, and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role.”
The lead for the film, Ezra Miller, and Calle did a chemistry read. A chemistry read is where a director or producer wants to see how well actors work with one another. This typically can give an insight into the type of character the cast will portray.
Sasha Calle is an upcoming actress mostly known for her role as Lola Rosales in The Young and the Restless. She has had roles in, The White Shoes, and the horror short, Final Stop. On Instagram, she posts videos of her playing guitar, and singing, as well as some of her modeling shoots. Calle released music on Spotify in February 2020 for her music career. Calle was nominated for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series.
Calle, who is Colombian, will be portraying the first Latina Supergirl.
I see some folks are having a tough time grasping the reality of a Latina Supergirl. Let me simplify it.

Superman and Supergirl are aliens, Kryptonians. They can literally be played by whoever because Kryptonian Aliens don’t exist. pic.twitter.com/xQRlFHOWJ6
