HAIM happened to be in the studio December 2020 recording when Este, the oldest sister, imagined Thundercat as a duet partner for “3AM.” Minutes later, Thundercat is in the studio, magically reimaging the hit. The sisters later thanked Thundercat, not just for his “magical twist” on the song, but for sending the best memes to keep the sisters laughing. HAIM later said they were ready for “Dragonball Durag pt 2” giving a nod to Thundercat’s song of the same name from his fourth studio album, It Is What It Is, released in April 2020.
