The Iconic Duo Daft Punk Retires After 28 Years of Music
Electronic music-duo, Daft Punk released a video to YouTube on Monday, which announed their retirement to fans.
Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, the musical geniuses behind the electronic and futuristic sound that was famously known as Daft Punk has announced that they will be retiring. Throughout their successful 28 year career Daft Punk has released four albums and earned six grammys. The iconic duo has been an inspiration to all genres of music.
Early Monday, February 22, Daft Punk released a clip to YouTube titled “Epilogue”. The wordless yet powerful eight-minute clip captured the duo walking away from the camera in a desert wearing their trademarked robotic-like helmets and matching motorcycle jackets with their hit song “Electronma” playing in the background. The years 1993 to 2021 then flash on the screen as a way of announcing the end for the duo.
Bangalter and de Homem-Christo met while they attended school in Paris back in the 80’s when they were just teenagers. Soon after the two began creating the original sound we all know and love today.
Daft Punk’s debut album, Homework was released back in 1997 which is considered to be a staple in electronic-dance music. The duo’s latest and apparently final album released back in 2013, Random Access Memories features hits such as, “Get Lucky” featuring Pharrell William and “Doin’ it Right” featuring Panda Bear.
Since the news of the breakup, fans have expressed to Twitter the joy that Daft Punk has brought throughout the years, with high hopes that this isn’t the end for the duo just yet.
If we all stream Touch right now maybe we can get Daft Punk back together. Everyone hold hands!!!

Electronic music would’ve been a whole lot different without Daft Punk. Definitely going to miss them, but thank you guys for everything. pic.twitter.com/M0OwaB1ajQ
