Singer Camila Cabello is using her platform to advocate for mental health support for activists by launching the Healing Justice Project in partnership with the Movement Voter Fund. The project’s primary focus is to provide mental health care to frontline activists. She announced the launch of her project in January of 2021.

Cabello has been using her time during quarantine to become more educated on racial inequality. Her project aims to provide direct funding to mental health resources for young activists and organizations that support racial and economic justice. As Billboard reports, the idea of her project came about when she was in conversation with Nadine Burke Harris, a California general surgeon. Harris was explaining to Cabello the toll toxic stress can have on a person’s body. She also had conversations with the founders of the racial equity group National Compadres Network, which sparked her interest in launching the fund.

The Healing Project fund focuses on dispersing donations to ten grant recipients. She worked with the Movement Voter Fund to help chose the ten recipients. Cabello has also been focusing on making those grant recipient’s projects known to the world via her social media. The selected groups are located in parts of the nation that have been the center of prominent racial justice activism. The ten groups are Black Leaders Organizing Communities, Faith For Justice, Freedom, Inc., Living United for Change in Arizona, Mass Liberation Arizona, MN350, Muslim Women For, QLatinz, Southerners on New Ground, and Student Advocacy Center of Michigan.

Camila Cabello is being honored as one of People’s Magazine Women Changing the World, which will be featured in People’s March magazine edition that will be on newsstands this upcoming Friday, March 5th.
