Amazon Studios’ ‘Coming 2 America’ Premiere Donated 5,000 Meals in Partnership With Black-Owned Businesses to Those in Need in Eight Locations

Amazon Studios’ premiere of Coming 2 America on March 3 was proven incredibly successful with a virtual premiere and the donation of 5,000 meals provided by Black-owned businesses. The virtual premiere saw VIPS, cast, and press supporting various Black-owned businesses. In various areas of the United States, Amazon Studios donated the meals as part of the premiere. Black-owned restaurants and businesses donated in partnership with Amazon Prime.

The meals were prepared by Grandchamps in New York, New York; Poppy + Rose in Los Angeles, California; Wing Quarter Daiquiris & Creole Kitchen in Houston, Texas;  Phlavz Bar and Grille in Chicago, Illinois; Busy Bee Cafe in Atlanta, Georgia; House of Mac from Miami, Florida; Mr. Braxton Bar & Kitchen from Washington, D.C., and Riddim N Spice in Nashville, Tennessee.

Amazon Prime focused the film’s marketing in the eight locations mentioned above. Certain Amazon trucks advertised the comedy including, one plane, four trucks, and two-hundred-twenty delivery vehicles. 

Ukonwa Ojo, the global chief marketing officer at Amazon Studio’s stated, “Prime Video is elated to celebrate Black excellence by honoring this iconic film in an epic way, our team wanted to create an unforgettable moment for our customers and communities that not only highlighted our important Amazon transportation partners, but also intimately touched consumers in their own backyard.”

Coming 2 America is set in the royal country of Zamunda. King Akeem, portrayed by Eddie Murphy, is newly crowned. His trusted friend and associate, Semmi, portrayed by Arsenio Hall, leave their lavish home for a journey to Queens, New York.

The comedy features Eddy Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Wesley Snipes, James Earl Jones, Sheri Headly, Kiki Layne, Leslie Jones, and many more comedy household names. This is the sequel to the 1988 film, Coming To America.
