Jorja Smith Shares Music Video for First Single of 2021 Titled ‘Addicted’
Jorja Smith has released her first single of 2021 with an accompanying music video for her song “Addicted.” English singer-songwriter Jorja Smith is back with her first single of 2021 with a music video, co-directed by Smith herself and Savanah Leaf.
The near four-minute video had been recorded entirely on a webcam, illustrating how artists continue to try and navigate in a pandemic that limits face-to-face meetings. The music video features Smith in a variety of shots beginning on a couch talking on her phone to the more dramatic stills of Smith dancing under fireworks or riding on horseback at the beach. Viewers see Smith letting loose and her sultry vocals compliment the video in a lovely way.
Fans of Smith have been anxiously awaiting new music from the artist. Smith attracted attention for the first time back in 2018 for her debut album Lost & Found, putting the artist in a league of her own in contemporary R&B music. In 2019, Smith was nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best New Artist but lost to Dua Lipa.

one of the most underrated albums, ever.
More recently, Smith released a social justice song in August titled, “By Any Means,” a song that had been largely inspired by the Black Lives Matter Movement. Smith said in a statement that she kept asking herself, “What can I do to keep this conversation going?” She then makes a powerful statement saying, “It’s not just a post on social media, it’s life.” Lost & Found also features a modern-day protest song with, “Blue Lights.”

Smith’s first song of 2021 sees the singer in a new light. When Smith discusses the meaning behind, “Addicted,” she reveals the song, “is about not receiving the full attention from someone that you should. Whether that be a partner, a parent, or a friend; just someone who should be giving back what you give to them. That person should be addicted to you and instead, they give their energy to something else that maybe they shouldn’t.” This song proves to be relatable on multiple levels.
