Hollywood’s beauty standards are typically unattainable for most people and Emilia Clarke has recently spoken out to fight against these norms.

Emilia Clarke is one such individual who has done extremely well in the industry with her lustrous career with roles as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, Louisa Clark in Me Before You, and Qi’ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Unfortunately, even her success does not prevent her from being criticized for her face, as she told Elle UK

When she was 28, the actress had a skincare specialist that recommended she get fillers, which typically try to superficially remove signs of aging. Clarke immediately showed that person the door. She told the publication, “At 34, I am wiser, more intelligent, I’ve had more experiences, I’ve done all this stuff and I’m proud of that. You can only do that because you are the age you are. Time is the only thing that allows you to do those things. So, if my face is gonna reflect the time that I’ve spent on this earth, I’m down for that.”

Clarke is aware of the typical procedures that other actors and actresses do, but she doesn’t see a reason for them, a rare thought in a very appearance-focused environment. She concluded that “If my job is telling me that I need to have anything more than possibly a bit of Botox when I’m 45 or whatever, then I’ll stop doing the job.”

Large muscles for men or extremely thin body types for women are just some of the norms society has created for standards of beauty. But we are inspired to see that there are some stars within the institution doing their best to fight off those expectations.
