Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra-Jonas Announced the 2021 Oscar Nominations
Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas and singer Nick Jonas released the Oscar nominations for the 23 categories on Monday.
The Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars, are awards in the film industry. They are awarded based on artistic and technical merit and are considered the most famous, prestigious awards in the entertainment industry. The Jonas’s presentation is set in the early morning and will be split into two portions.
The first part began at 5:19 a.m. PT / 8:19 a.m. ET. The couple announced nine different categories including, Actor in a Supporting Role, Actress in a Supporting Role, Costume Design, Music (Original Score), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, Sound, Writing (Adapted Screenplay), Writing (Original Screenplay)
The second half began at 5:31 a.m. PT / 8:31 a.m. ET. This half included the remaining 14 categories: Actor in a Leading Role, Actress in a Leading Role, Animated Feature Film, Cinematography, Directing, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, Film Editing, International, Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Song), Best Picture, Production Design, Visual Effects.
Fan favorites for the Best Picture award are Nomadland, The Trial of Chicago 7, and Minari. For Best Actor, Chadwick Boseman in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Anthony Hopkins in The Father, and Riz Ahmed in Sound of Metal. Frontrunners for the Best Actress category include Carey Mulligan in Promising Young Woman, Frances McDormand for Nomadland, and Viola Davis in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
Viola Davis and Andra Day both earned 'Best Actress' nominations.
