In his first public appearance since the airing of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s revealing interview with Oprah, Prince William came to his family’s defense and denied claims of racism within the Royal Family.

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton paid a visit to London’s School 21 to help promote a new mental health initiative on their first day back since the COVID-19 pandemic began. When asked about his thoughts on the racist claims made during the interview, Prince William said that the Royals are “very much not a racist family.”

The Duke of Cambridge is the first of the family to speak out following Buckingham Palace’s recent response to racist allegations, which said that “some recollections may vary” regarding events and conversations described by Markle. The interview has sparked many heated discussions and debates about race amongst both fans and celebrities.

While speaking with Oprah, Prince Harry revealed a rift in his relationship with his brother since stepping back from his royal duties. This was confirmed by Prince William who said that he had not yet spoken to Prince Harry since the interview aired, but that he will be.

One of the most shocking moments from their sit down with Oprah was a conversation a member of the Royal Family had with Prince Harry about how dark his son Archie’s skin might be when he was born. The Duke of Sussex refused to say who made the comment and fans have been speculating who may have been responsible.

Many are disappointed in Prince William’s response and some would’ve preferred no comment at all. Fans feel that both he and Buckingham Palace have attempted to deflect and invalidate Markle’s experience with racism during her time as a Royal.

We’re all waiting to see what will come of the allegations and whether or not it’ll inflict change within the Royal Family and UK media. If you missed it, you can stream Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s full interview with Oprah on CBS.
