Andrew John Hozier-Byrne is his given name but he is known professionally as Hozier. The talented artist focuses on utilizing religious and literary themes in his work. He specializes in the folk, soul, and blues music genres. Hozier was born on March 17, 1990, in Bray, Ireland, where he currently resides. The singer’s musical career skyrocketed in 2014 and 2015 from his track Take Me to Church, a tune to the perils of homosexuality in the Catholic Church.

In an interview with Star Tribune, explaining his meaning and intention of the track, Hozier says, “I’m not condemning the church or religion on the whole, just that one policy [the anti-same-sex marriage policy], which seems so wrong to me. And obviously, I’m not alone in thinking that.”

Hozier is a true intellect and poet, writing, producing, singing, and ultimately creating all of his music. He is a force to be reckoned with as he supports equality for all and especially cares for LGBTQ+ rights. He currently has only two albums out right now and can both be streamed on Spotify and Apple Music. We wish him a birthday that is as joyous and magical as he is.
