HBO Max Orders Documentary Series About the Mysterious Death of Brittany Murphy
HBO Max has ordered a new documentary exploring the life and death of the late actress Brittany Murphy. Brittany Murphy began her acting career in 1990 when she landed her first television role on Blossom. After the show, many doors began to open up for the late actress as the world fell in love with her. She is mainly known for her roles in Just Married, Clueless, and Uptown Girls, filmed in the late 90s and early 2000s. The actress passed away suddenly in December of 2009 at the age of only 32. The documentary will dig deep into the peculiar circumstances around Murphy’s death. The two-part docuseries will feature interviews with her family and friends as well as never seen footage.

The L.A. County Coroner ruled Murphy’s death as an accident. Saying it was caused by pneumonia with iron deficiency and prescribed drug intoxication. Questions began to come about when her husband, Simon Monjack, died a year later in 2010 under the same conditions. There was a lot of controversy between her parents about her death. Her father and mother had two different theories about how their daughter died.
In an interview with Good Morning America, her father stated that he believed Murphy was poisoned. His approach is based upon an additional toxicology report that he ordered. However, Murphy’s mother responded to her father’s theory with an emotional open letter denying his claims. Over ten years after her death there her cause of death is still a controversial topic. HBO Max intends to create a documentary that celebrates the life of Murphy while at the same time struggling to come to solid conclusions about her death.

Cynthia Hill, known for Private Violence, is directing the documentary. Blumhouse Television and Pyramid Productions are responsible for the production aspect. While there is no name or release date yet, fans can expect more details to be announced in the near future.
