With COVID-19 restrictions and new health precautions, many series’ have paused filming until further information is given and safety requirements ease. Yet, the Netflix hit series has been oddly quiet concerning new episodes, filming, or even a return of season 6. Some have compared the COVID pandemic to an episode of Black Mirror, relating a little too much to the dystopian show. As a result, fans are anticipating what other stirring episodes the show will be delivering next, if it is to come back.

Black Mirror creator, Charlie Brooker, says he is currently working on projects with a much “lighter tone.” He felt it may not be the right time for such a dystopian-themed show due to what has occurred in the recent past.

Another reason for a season 6 delay is that Brooker and producer Anabel Jones have left their former parent company, Endemol Shine, to start another Netflix-backed production company titled Back and Bones. Meanwhile, Endemol Shine was bought by the Banijay Group.

The head of Banijay’s distribution, Cathy Payne, says they will work on exploring options on how to work these days. Fans would be relieved to know that season 6 is not completely off the table and if renewed, they can expect a release in late 2022.

In the meantime, you can binge-watch all five seasons on Netflix and make sure to follow Black Mirror‘s official Twitter account.
