HBO Releases Trailer for Victorian, Sci-Fi Drama Series ‘The Nevers’

HBO / Keith Bernstein

HBO released a trailer for its new series, The Nevers, a show set in Victorian London centered around a group of super-powered women. This science-fiction drama series follows two women as they try to protect others with abilities. The first season will be split into two six-episode parts.

Laura Donnelly (Outlander) stars as Amalia True alongside Ann Skelly (Red Rock), who plays Penance Adair. The show’s cast also includes James Norton (Grantchester), Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark), and Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story).

Reminiscent of X-MenLeague of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and Bridgerton, Donnelly said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the show is like a “female Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.”

The trailer finds those called “The Touched” affected by a supernatural event leaving them with powers like fire manipulation and premonition. As the group begins to band together, the trailer shows institutions like the church trying to control and eliminate those with enhanced abilities.

As the women fight cultural and religious beliefs, they begin to search for answers and discover a larger enemy. The final scene depicts a calm London street, enclosed in stillness as drops of shimmering light rain down from above.

This Victorian-era sci-fi drama is one you won’t want to miss. The Nevers premieres on April 11 on HBO and HBO Max, with on-demand streaming access available the next day, April 12.
