Hulu Orders Pilot Episode for ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’
Sarah J. Maas’ best-selling series, A Court of Thorns and Roses, is getting a TV series adaptation at Hulu. More commonly referred to as ACOTAR by fans, Maas announced on Instagram she will join the series as showrunner alongside Ron Moore. Moore is best known for his work as showrunner on Battlestar Galactica and adapting Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander.
Moreover, Hulu has not yet ordered an entire season of ACOTAR. The agreement between Maas, Moore, and the streaming platform is a pilot episode, penned by Moore, with a significant penalty if the series does not receive a green light.
The announcement comes after rumors of an ACOTAR television adaptation began swirling after Maas’ husband posted a photo of the show notes earlier that day. In her Instagram announcement, Maas referenced her husband’s faux-pas for “spilling the beans.”
ACOTAR is part of Moore’s 20th Century Fox deal, which includes the upcoming Disney+ shows The Society of Explorers and Adventurers and a Swiss Family Robinson reboot. In addition to writing the pilot episode, Moore will serve as the series’ executive producer alongside Maas and Maril Davis.

Released in May 2015 under Bloomsbury Publishing, ACOTAR is the first book in a series of the same name. After the first book comes A Court of Mist and Fury, A Court of Wings and Ruin, A Court of Frost and Starlight, and A Court of Silver Flames.
The first book in the series is a loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast. The description for ACOTAR says: “It blends epic romance, adventure, and political intrigue in a tale of a huntress who agrees to travel to a magical realm with a faerie lord in return for her family’s safety, only to fall for him and ultimately fight for that love when an ancient curse threatens to destroy the faerie and human realms.”

Neither Maas, Moore, or Hulu have announced any castings for the show. Additionally, there is no date announced for production on the show to begin. However, Moore currently works as showrunner on Starz’s Outlander and Apple TV+’s For All Mankind.
