Joshua Silverstein Defends Meghan Markle Amidst Bullying Allegations
Meghan Markle’s childhood sweetheart, Joshua Silverstein, defends her amidst bullying claims. The 39-year-old Duchess had been accused of bullying two personal assistants from Buckingham Palace on March 3. Since then, Joshua Silverstein, an award-winning beatboxer, actor, and educator came to Meghan’s side. He believes the claims to be false.
In the interview with US Weekly, Silverstein makes it clear that he is not hesitating on defending the Duchess. According to US Weekly, Joshua Silverstein stated, “I see her doing whatever it is she feels like she should do in order to be happy and coexist within a system that has probably not been very welcoming to who she is and where she comes from.”
It’s no secret that Markle felt unwelcome by the Royal family. She spoke out in a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey about the racism she experienced within Buckingham Palace.
Although Silverstein did not directly address this situation, he did point out that Black women who speak out are viewed negatively. Specifically, Silverstein stated, “When you find women of color — particularly Black women — standing up for themselves and speaking out and speaking against what they feel [is] disrespect or oppression, often times whiteness tends to classify that in negative ways because they don’t want that to happen.”
Silverstein continued, saying “It’s almost like people are expected to know their place and whenever they don’t fall in line with that, then people say it’s a problem.”
In response to Markle’s difficult decisions after stepping down from working as a Royal, the interview ended with Silverstein explaining, “As long as she’s happy and he’s happy, that’s all that matters.”
