“The Melting Of The Sun” is the second single to be released off Daddy’s Home. During the song, St. Vincent name drops popular celebrities Joni Mitchell, Marilyn Monroe, Tori Amos, and Nina Simone. In an interview with Rolling Stone, St. Vincent revealed the significance behind writing a song about these powerful women. She calls the song a “love letter” to these beautiful, strong women. She elaborates to Rolling Stone, “Each of them survived in an environment that was in a lot of ways hostile to them.” This song is used as a way to pay homage to those that came before her and paved the way for her to make the incredible music she is so fortunate enough to create.

On April 3, St. Vincent had been a musical guest on SNL, where she performed “The Melting Of The Sun” and “Pay Your Way In Pain” for the first time. Fans stormed social media to show their reactions to her funky performances.

St. Vincent’s Daddy’s Home will be her sixth studio album. It is slated for a May 14 release with Loma Vista. You can watch the seventies psychedelic video below.
