Andra Day Stuns in Elie Saab at the BAFTAs
The United States vs. Billie Holiday star Andra Day captivated viewers with her Elie Saab green dress. The green backless dress had been lined with gold detailing around the neckline. Day also wears gold hoop earrings and bold makeup, courtesy of Eva Kim. Day opted for a half-up, half-down hairstyle by Tony Medina. Although the dress may appear simple for an awards show, Day effortlessly shows that less is more.
Day had been styled by Wouri Vice, who took to social media to share her stunning look. She had been a presenter for the BAFTAs, and fans had expressed their outrage over her Best Actress snub. After winning the Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Drama Motion Picture for her portrayal of Billie Holiday, fans were certain she would have scored a nomination at the BAFTAs. Although she may not have been nominated for a BAFTA, Day has received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, coming as no surprise to fans after her riveting performance.

Neither the winner of the Golden Globe for best actress in motion picture drama, Andra Day, or the winner of the Critics’ Choice Award for best actress, Carey Mulligan, scored a nomination.#EEBAFTAs
In an interview with Deadline, Day spoke about Holiday’s powerful music, as “Strange Fruit” had been the protest song to fuel her activism. When it comes to thinking about what she learned from playing such a popular singer, Day expresses, “She definitely made me braver, Holiday was just trying to live her life freely as a queer Black woman, but the government wasn’t having it.” She elaborates that she learned that we have to speak the truth. It goes beyond Billie Holiday’s story, as far too many stories have been altered, or changed, in order to fit a narrative. Billie Holiday had challenged the world during her time, and Day wants to continue to speak the truth.
