On Wednesday, April 14, Never Have I Ever creator Mindy Kaling took to Instagram to share unreleased images of the Netflix show’s upcoming second season and to announce the sophomore season will premiere sometime in July. The pictures also confirm that joining the Netflix comedy in a recurring role is Academy Award winner rapper, Common.

The show centers around teenager Devi Vishwakumar (played by Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), who struggles with the aftermath of her father’s death (played by Sendhil Ramamurthy) while trying to navigate high school.

The first-look photos also show the fallout of the first season finale’s cliffhanger of Vishwakumar’s love triangle with Ramakrishnan standing in front of a bulletin board as her character makes a pro and con list for each of the love interests. Fans also got to see a preview of Common’s character, Dr. Chris Jackson, who plays a dermatologist who works in close proximation to Nalini Vishwakumar (played by Poorna Jagannathan).

Both critics and fans alike have praised Never Have I Ever for its groundbreaking South Asian representation and challenging the stereotypes of South Asian women. Additionally, the show’s main character struggles with her Indian identity and familial relationships as she learns to navigate life as a first-generation Indian American.

In addition to Ramakrishnan, Jagannathan, and Common, the show also stars Richa Moorjani, Jaren Lewison, Darren Barnet, and John McEnroe, who serves as the show’s narrator. Kaling, Lang Fisher, Howard Klein, David Miner, and Tristram Shapeero executive produce the series. Fisher co-created Never Have I Ever along with Kaling.

While fans will have to wait a few months until the season two premiere, audiences can watch the first season exclusively on Netflix.
