Gucci Celebrates 100 Years in Collaboration With Balenciaga
The luxury fashion brand, Gucci, has debuted a new thrilling collaboration with Balenciaga, bringing their fans a highly anticipated celebration of their 100-year anniversary. Gucci is one of the world’s most recognized and coveted fashion trademarks around the world; its name has become synonymous with wealth and luxury.
It all began in 1921 when a man by the name of Guccio Gucci had a vision. He was simply a bellhop at the Savoy Hotel when he witnessed the wealthy guests in their designer outfits and high-quality fabrics. He observed the tastes of the upper class, and from there, gave birth to the Gucci brand. The company has come a long way from its small Italian origins; it has grown into a juggernaut, ranking in millions each year. Gucci started as a little shop in Florence, expanded to Rome, survived through the second world war, and only grew with time. And now, as the company honors its 100th anniversary, Gucci has debuted its newest collaboration with Balenciaga.
To celebrate 100 years of Gucci, creative director Alessandro Michele arranged a triumphant ceremony, titled Gucci Aria. Fans were stunned to see the brand collaborate with Balenciaga, another well-known trademark known for pushing the boundaries of fashion. While listing his inspirations for this collection, Michele notes that, “Gucci becomes for me a hacking lab, made of incursions and metamorphoses.” While paying homage to the many eras of Gucci fashion, he also makes it known that he is always finding new ways to be innovative. The runway was filled with references to Gucci’s past; from the ‘Savoy’ headwear, to the sexiness of the Tom Ford era. Still, the collection manages to showcase a new, modernized vision incorporated with old classics.
