In November 2020 the Cirque Du Soleil Entertainment Group issued Chapter 15 protection, ensuring "a solid foundation for a successful relaunch" following potential bankruptcy. A year later, the largest contemporary circus performance is back on in Las Vegas, London, and the Dominican Republic as presented in their "The Sun is Rising" promo video.

“I am grateful for the trust our new owners have placed in our management team. I am prepared to contribute, along with the new stakeholders, to build upon the successes of the past, apply discipline to our operations and growth and fulfill our mission to bring Cirque’s extraordinary artistic vision to audiences around the world. Together, we have already begun laying the groundwork for the relaunch of Cirque du Soleil and are excited to enter the next chapter of Cirque’s history,” Daniel Lamarre, President and CEO of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, stated last November in a press release.

Cirque Du Soleil has been on ‘intermission’ since March 2020, essentially pausing their 23 shows worldwide. Mystére will return to Treasure Island by the end of June while tickets are already going on sale for “O” showcasing on July 1. Little else was revealed about the reopening, but Cirque Du Soleil did announce Kooza will show in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic later this fall as Luzia returns to Royal Albert Hall a few months after.

An affiliate of the Cirque Du Soleil Entertainment Group, Blue Man Group will also return to the Las Vegas stage beginning this summer. For over 29 years, the company has been producing creative and artistic performances – which will only appear more impressive after this year-long break.

“This is the moment we have all been waiting for,” stated Daniel Lamarre, President and CEO of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group. “Almost 400 days have passed since we had to take a temporary hiatus, and we have been anxiously awaiting our return to the stage. I am so proud of the resilience of our artists and employees who persevered during the most challenging times with stages dark around the world for so long. I just can’t wait to see the lights go back on.”

According to Deadline, for more than 39 years 365 million people attended Cirque Du Soleil performances in over 90 countries. After a long year of tour cancellations and strict protocols for shows, it looks like the world of live entertainment is beginning to open up again.

“This is only the beginning. We look forward to sharing more exciting news in the coming weeks,” Lamarre added in the press release.
