Willow Smith Releases Pop-Punk Single ‘Transparent Soul’
Willow Smith has shared a new track off her latest studio album titled “Transparent Soul.” The song is a pop-punk rock tune and features Blink-182 legendary drummer Travis Barker. Willow Smith plays an Ernie Ball Music Man St Vincent signature six-string guitar on the heavy track.
The 20-year-old singer took to social media to thank her collaborators for helping her vision come to life. Some notable names Smith includes are Vernon François, RAOÚL, Dana Trippe, Chloe & Chenelle Delgadillo, and Tylre Wilcox.
Smith is most notably known for her song “Whip My Hair” which had been released back in 2010. The inspiration behind “Transparent Soul” came from her mother, Jada Pinkett-Smith, who had a nu-metal band called Wicked Wisdom. Smith spoke to Zane Lowe, where she revealed some of her insecurities. Smith had a difficult time channeling that rock energy as her mom had done in the early 2000s. She reveals, “I never felt like I could sing that kind of music because I was always trained to sing R&B and pop … I realized that it’s not my voice that can’t sing this kind of music. I was afraid to sing this kind of music because I wasn’t sure what people would think.”

In her interview with Zane Lowe, she also shared her excitement at getting to work with the talented Travis Barker. Smith cites Barker as one of her favorite artists and emphasized the point that he is much more than a drummer. She tells Lowe, “Being in the studio with him really showed me how multi-dimensional his artistry really is … He literally heard the song once and played it. He was like, ‘Oh, that’s perfect,’ one day and played it perfectly once.”
