Viori created an extensive hair care line, Rice Hair Cosmetics, made of Longsheng rice ethically sourced from the Red Yao women in China. There is a long-held tradition of keeping hair healthy, strong, and long within the Red Yao women of the Huangluo Yao Village in China. Having been harvested by the Yao women for over 2,000 years, Longshen is one of their biggest cultivations.

Longsheng rice empowered Yao women for centuries as a symbol of strength. Not only do they harvest, plant, and grow the rice themselves, these women get many benefits from it. One of their uses is for their hair known to be long, shiny, and never turning grey.

Inspired by the Red Yao tribe’s hair care rituals, Viori partnered with the Yao women in the Longsheng Mountains. To stay true to the Yao women’s ritual, Viori uses and sources the same natural ingredients.

For the Native Essence Shampoo Bar Unscented, these ingredients include Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Longsheng Rice Water, Cocoa Butter, Cetyl Alcohol, Shea Butter, Stearic Acid, Rice Bran Oil, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, Vitamin B8, Vitamin B5, Bamboo Extract, Broccoli Seed Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Sodium Lactate, Aloe Vera, Vitamin E Acetate, and Jojoba Oil.

The website explains what some of these ingredients are

  1. Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is a natural cleanser derived from coconut.

2. Behentrimonium Methosulfate is a sulfate-free, vegetable-sourced conditioner derived from the colza plant.

3. Cetyl Alcohol is a plant-source with fatty alcohols.

4. Stearic Acid is a plant source with fatty alcohols.

5. Sodium Lactate is derived from the natural fermentation of sugars found in corn and beets.

With no added fragrances, parabens, phthalates, or sulfates, these products help condition the head rather than irritate. The bars are ethically sourced as well as 100% vegan, pH balanced, plastic-free, cruelty-free, and sustainable.

Five percent of the profits go to the Red Yao women to help preserve their culture. This is to assist the Yao community by aiding them with resources. Viori initiates projects that give the community abilities for the upkeep of their lands, ecological harmony, and social well-being.

As they are a young company, Viori hopes to eventually give more than five percent to the Yao women. For the Longsheng rice and other products, the company pays a hefty and sustainable amount.
