Two weeks before the second season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series premieres on Disney+, Disney gave fans a sneak peek at the upcoming season with a glimpse of the Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett duet, ‘Even When/The Best Part.’ Disney debuted the song alongside a clip of the series featuring the music.

The song finds Nini Salazar-Roberts (Rodrigo) and Ricky Bowen (Bassett) alone in separate states wishing they could be with each other. ‘Even When/The Best Part’ will premiere in the “Valentine’s Day” episode, where the two will try to spend the holiday together but end up at each other’s door with a song in hand –– Ricky singing the ‘Even When’ part of the duet, while Nina sings ‘The Best Part.’

The first season of the series focused on the students of East High performing High School Musical: The Musical. The second season will feature a new musical for the students to tackle –– Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. The new season will also find the students facing off against North High, a rival theatre school, at a student theater competition.

The show also stars Matt Cornett, Sofia Wylie, Larry Saperstein, Julia Lester, Dara Reneé, Frankie Rodriguez, Mark St. Cyr, and Kate Reinders. Oliver Goldstick, Tim Federle, Bill Borden, Barry Rosenbush, and Tamra Davis serve as executive producers for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, with Federle pulling double duty’s creator.

During the show’s hiatus, both Rodrigo and Bassett have begun their solo careers. Bassett released his debut EP, Joshua Bassett, in March. Rodrigo’s debut single, ‘Driver’s License,’ shattered Spotify and Amazon records and spent eight weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her debut album Sour premieres on May 21.

While you wait for the second season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series to come out, you can catch up exclusively on Disney+. To listen to more of Rodrigo and Bassett’s solo music, you can listen on Spotify and other major streaming services.
