MARINA Releases New Song ‘Purge the Poison’ (feat. Pussy Riot)
MARINA and the women Russian group, Pussy Riot, have collaborated for an intense feminist pop ballad, “Purge the Poison.”
Singer-songwriter, MARINA, dropped her single, “Purge the Poison,” from her unreleased fifth studio album, Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land, featuring Pussy Riot, released on May 5.
“Purge the Poison,” tells the story of the lack of empowerment women tend to achieve in society. The song appears to mention the issues of climate change, capitalism as well as patriarchal values.
After all, this futuristic, fast-paced song declares the ultra-feminine that has been used as propaganda in the past. Pussy Riot seems to have been a perfect match to collaborate with for this single.
marina wears these shoes in the purge the poison mv, is it a wizard of oz reference (“there’s no place like home”) in order to reinforce the idea that we need to fix the damage we’ve done because we can’t run from it?? even if it was just an aesthetic thing, she is so cool pic.twitter.com/trxsDYyUXA

Pussy Riot is a Russian feminist punk-rock group. The group began in Moscow, Russia in 2011, in protest of sexist acts produced by the government. The band showcases strong vocals, political activism, and fierce dynamite that pushes their ideas forward.
Nadya, one of the talents from the group, duos with the Welsh singer on this track. Nadya’s sweetly sadistic, high notes and vocals compliment MARINA’s deeper, sultry tones. This match brings out a natural charisma.
This collaboration showcases a feminist point of view. By portraying the world from a woman’s point of view, there are easily identifiable traits of what can be changed in modern society. MARINA’s lyrics and Nadya’s vocals give away to the struggles faced due to corruption.

While we wait for the album, “Purge the Poison” gives a snippet of the deeply rooted frustration many women and feminists feel towards the inequality of today’s societal standards.
