Six will resume performances on September 17, with an official opening on October 3, making it the first Broadway show to return to the Great White Way. On March 12, 2020, Six was supposed to make its Broadway debut; however, the COVID-19 pandemic postponed the British musical from opening for over 18 months.

At the time of the Broadway shutdown, 31 musicals and plays were holding performances, with some shows, like Six, still in previews. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo initially shut down Broadway for a few weeks because of the surge in COVID-19 cases in New York City. However, government officials consistently pushed back reopening dates for over a year.

Nevertheless, on May 5, Cuomo announced that live theatre could open as early as September 14. As of May 6, the only other Broadway shows to announce 2021 returns are the long-running Phantom of the Opera on October 22 and Diana: The Musical, which returns December 1 with opening night set for December 16.

Six tells the story of King Henry VIII’s six wives and presents the information in a modern pop concert with the style of each wife modeled after current pop stars like Beyoncé, Lily Allen, and Britney Spears. The six women battle each other to discover who was the most mistreated by the king, with the winner becoming the head of the singing group. The show debuted to critical and commercial acclaim on London’s West End before transferring to Broadway.

The official return cast has yet to be announced, but the original opening line up included Adrianna Hicks as Catherine of Aragon, Andrea Macasaet as Anne Boleyn, Brittney Mack as Anna of Cleves, Abby Mueller as Jane Seymour, Samantha Pauly as Katherine Howard, and Anna Uzele as Catherine Parr. Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss wrote the show’s music, lyrics, and book.

Tickets for the show are currently only available during the pre-sale, which ends on May 10 at 9:59 Eastern Standard Time. Fans can sign up for the pre-sale by going to the show’s website and entering your email, with a pre-sale code sent to your address. You can also listen to the show’s music through a studio cast album available on all major streaming sites.
