On May 11, MTV announced that Scarlett Johansson is this year’s recipient of the prestigious Generation Award at the MTV Movie & TV Awards. The Generation Award is given to “beloved actors whose diverse contributions to both film and television have turned them into household names.” Johansson is in great company, as previous honorees included Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Will Smith, Reese Witherspoon, Mark Wahlberg, Sandra Bullock, Jamie Foxx, Johnny Depp, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise, and Jim Carrey. Her Marvel costars Robert Downey Jr. and Christ Pratt have also been honored.

Johansson is no stranger to the MTV Awards, as she’s been nominated six times, winning once. She won her first MTV Award in 2013 for “Best Fight” in The Avengers. She had been nominated for “Best Breakthrough Performance” for her role as Charlotte in Sofia Coppola’s Lost In Translation. She had been nominated twice for “Best Kiss” in the films Don Jon and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She was also nominated for “Best Female Performance” in the film Lucy and received another nomination again for “Best Fight” in Avengers: Infinity War.

Johansson has been in many films throughout her career. She began as a child actress in 1994 in the film North. As a teenager, she filmed The Horse Whisperer. Her big break came in 2003, where she landed the lead role in Lost In Translation starring opposite Bill Murray.

Johansson has arguably garnered the most fans through her role as Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) in the MCU. Fans are impatiently awaiting the origin story of her character Black Widow. The highly-anticipated film is slated for a July 9 release and features appearances by David Harbour, Florence Pugh, and Rachel Weisz.

We could not be prouder of Scarlett Johansson for receiving such an honor. Her films have made a grand impact on the entertainment world. Tune in to watch the MTV Awards this Sunday, May 16 at 9 pm.
