Major Hollywood Premiere of ‘Cruella’ Is the First of It’s Kind Since the Pandemic
The Cruella premiere is a mark in history, being the first major Hollywood premiere since the COVID-19 Pandemic started. Emma Stone looks stunning two months after giving birth to her first daughter.
The Cruella world premiere happened Wednesday, May 19, at El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles. With restrictions still in place, it brought back a sense of normality as the premiere is the first to happen since COVID shut down all events.
Disney staged the Mulan premiere in March 2020. Being the last major red carpet event to occur, the occasion was memorable, but film fans are excited for the return of premieres.

Emma Stone, the Academy Award winner for La La Land, wore a beautiful Louis Vuitton suit that symbolizes her character Cruella DeVil. She was a fashion icon with her black, red, and white outfit. Although Stone had just given birth to her firstborn, she attended the red carpet with elegance.

The red carpet still had some restrictions in place, like the absence of the media. Also, Emma Thompson, who plays Baronesa von Hellman, and Joel Fry, who plays Jasper, were missing at the event. Both are British actors, so speculations are that their absence was due to traveling.
But, the major Hollywood premiere had stunning attendance, including Craig Gillespie, the director, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste, who plays Anita Darling.
The outfits worn on the red carpet mirrors how the designs in the movie will blow our minds. Costume designer Jenny Beavan, who won the Best Costume Design Oscar for Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), told Vogue that there were 47 different looks in the film.
The movie is an all-new live-action feature film set in the 70s in London, during the punk-rock revolution. It follows the storyline of the most notorious and fashionable villain, Cruella de Vill. The young grifter named Estella, who aims to be a designer, befriends two thieves that appreciate her mischiefs. So, together they make their living on the London streets until Estella’s fashion grabs Baronesa von Hellman’s attention, who a fashion legend. Now, the Baronesa will make Estella embrace her wicked side and become the remarkable Cruella.
Cruella stars Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, Emily Beecham, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and Mark Strong. The screenplay is by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara, the story is by Aline Brosh McKenna and Kelly Marcel & Steve Zissis, and the film is based upon the novel The One Hundred and One Dalmatians by Dodie Smith.

Besides being the first major Hollywood premiere during the pandemic, Cruella is also the first major release to open in the theater of summer 2021.
