Keys wrote to her 21M Instagram followers that she was “flying so high,” as she has the incredible honor of celebrating the hits off her debut studio album Songs In A Minor. By next month, Keys will have released her very first studio album twenty years ago. After all she has accomplished over the last two decades, Keys had to show up to the Microsoft Theater dressed in style.

Songs In A Minor remains one of the most successful albums for Keys and the R&B music scene. At the 44th Annual Grammy Awards in 2002, Keys took home five Grammy Awards, including “Best New Artist,” and “Song of the Year” for “Fallin.” After the success of “Fallin,” it came as no surprise for Keys to perform the smash hit in celebration of her debut album.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama introduced Keys to take the stage to perform her twentieth-anniversary medley. Obama praised Keys for her incredible songwriting abilities and reminisced over the first time she heard “Fallin.” Obama knew that this would not be the last time we would hear of Keys, and she was impressed us time and time again. The most impressive part about Keys’ artistry is that she has always authentically been herself. Her album Songs In A Minor had only been released when Keys was just twenty years old.

Keys’ medley began with whispering “Piano and I.” She then transitioned into “Woman’s Worth,” followed by a cover of Prince’s “How Come You Don’t Call Me.” The finale had been “Fallin,” coming as no surprise for fans. Keys belted out each song, delivering a powerful performance.

We could not be prouder of Alicia Keys and her incredible discography. She is, and will always be, Alicia. You can watch the memorable medley performance here.
