ABC’s ‘Black-ish’ Upcoming Season 8 Will Be Its Last

After a long run and 7 seasons, the Peabody and NAACP image awarding-winning show, ‘Black-ish’ will come to an end after its 8th season.

On May 14, the creator and producer for the show Kenya Barris, took to Instagram to share a trailer and heartfelt announcement about the ending of the popular family sitcom. In part of the post Barris wrote, “To ALL the people in the world I love, honor, respect, and care for it is both exciting and bittersweet to share that black-ish has been RENEWED by ABC for its EIGHTH… and FINAL SEASON”.

‘Black-ish originally aired back in 2014 and has been following the lives of Andre Johnson (Anthony Anderson), Rainbow Johnson (Tracee Ellis Ross), Zoey Johnson (Yara Shahidi), Diane Johnson (Marsai Martin), Andre Johnson Jr (Marcus Scribner), Jack Johnson (Miles Brown), Ruby Johnson (Jennifer Lewis), and “Pops” (Laurence Fishburne), and the culture surrounding black families in America. From topics as simple as fitting in at school to identity issues, the show has covered a lot of important subjects over the years, and has continued to garner success and attention.

The popular show has over 150 episodes to date and has remained very popular over the years. Over the years the show has amassed over 20 Emmy nominations, including nominations for Anderson and Ellis Ross, and the show itself for best comedy series. Coming from the success of ‘Black-ish’, came, ‘Grown-ish’ which is all about Zoey Johnson’s (Yara Shahidi), college experience, and air’s on young adult TV channel Freeform. The show still going strong will begin airing its fourth season on July 8th and will focus on Zoey and her friend’s senior year of college.

In light of the show ending, cast members have made their own posts talking about what the show has done for them and realizing how much the show has done for them and fans of their work. Miles Brown who plays Jackson, made a post on Twitter reminiscing about how when ‘Black-ish’ started he was only 9 years old and will be turning 17 this year. Calling it “hard to imagine” Ellis Ross also tweeted about “The joy & pride in what we made is immeasurable. Thx 4 laughing, crying & growing with the Johnsons!”

This season finale looks like it will end with a bang, and we can’t wait to see what is in store for ‘Black-ish’s’ send-off in season 8.
