Chad Stahelski, who will be directing John Wick: Chapter 4, expressed his excitement in having Sawayama join the action franchise. Stahelski spoke to Deadline and says of Sawayama, “I’m so glad to have Rina on board to make her feature film debut in John Wick: Chapter 4. She’s an incredible talent who’ll bring so much to the film.” While much of the film’s story has been kept under wraps, fans should be excited for what Sawayama will bring to the role.

Sawayama is a Japanese-British pop singer who rose to prominence for her debut album, Sawayama which had been released in April 2020. The singer has been praised by many in the industry such as her friend-turned collaborator, Elton John. John and Sawayama shared a duet of her song, “Chosen Family,” where John plays the piano effortlessly. John had called Sawayama his favorite album of 2020, a huge compliment for Sawayama.

Sawayama has had a tough time in the industry, often for her Britishness. At the Brit Awards, fans had been predicting Sawayama would win in a landslide in several categories. However, she had been deemed ineligible and told she had not been British enough, despite her accent and 20+ years residing in the United Kingdom. Despite this unfortunate hiccup, Sawyama had gotten the BPI Awards to change the rules; therefore, this does not have to happen to another talented artist.

Fans have taken to social media to congratulate Sawayama on a well-deserved debut film role.
