Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson Star in New ‘Reminiscence’
Warner Brothers Pictures has just released the official new Reminiscence trailer, a mind-bending action thriller directed by Westworld creator Lisa Joy and starring Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson.
“You’re going on a journey, a journey through memory,” Hugh Jackman states in the newly dropped trailer for Reminiscence, which already has you feeling that this film will be one roller coaster ride of emotion. Jackman stars as Nick Bannister, a P.I. of the mind who gets lost in the past as he helps his clients gain access to their forgotten memories using some really high-tech gadgets. He’s joined by his assistant and friend, played by Thandiwe Newton, as they navigate their struggling business where they help people retrieve memories for cost.
Lisa Joy explained in a special trailer premiere that, “…life goes on until one day they get a new client, the mysterious Mae played by Rebecca Ferguson, and she’s lost her set of keys and wants a simple nudge to remind her of where they can go. But this little nudge that Nick gives her memory starts a torrid and passionate love affair that although it leads to at first this almost obsession, disappears later. It then leads Nick Bannister into a very dark world where he tries to investigate what happened to her, who she really was, and what she really wanted.“
The film is set on the Miami coast which appears to be dark, dismal, and sunken due to rising sea levels including buildings with submerged foundations. Jackman shares a bit of what may have occurred when he states, “When the waters began to rise and war broke out, nostalgia became a way of life. There wasn’t a lot to look forward to, so people began looking back. Nothing is more addictive than the past.”
Jackman also shared during the trailer premiere, “This is not just sci-fi—this is humanity.” Lisa Joy spoke a bit on how the film goes beyond sci-fi and touches on the real world including climate change when she stated, “For me, science fiction is a metaphor on a grand scale,” she said. “It’s a way of examining the world around us.”
Bannister’s world is turned upside down by Mae, ultimately having him play a game of lost and found. He appears to not listen to his assistant when she warns him that he is getting in over his head. According to the studios’ synopsis, “Bannister fights to find the truth about Mae’s disappearance, he uncovers a violent conspiracy, and must ultimately answer the question: how far would you go to hold on to the ones you love?”
The film also stars Daniel Wu, Natalie Martinez, Angela Sarafyan, Cliff Curtis, and Marina de Tavira. Take a peek at the newly released trailer for Reminiscence below which will release in theaters and on HBO Max for 31 days following its release on August 20.
