Princess Beatrice reveals that she is pregnant. She is welcoming her first child with her husband and Italian real-estate tycoon Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi this fall. The announcement comes just months after her sister, Princess Eugene, gave birth earlier this year. According to Insider, Princess Beatrice’s baby will be the 12th great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II, once Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle welcome a baby girl in the coming weeks.

As with any official royal news in the modern age, Buckingham Palace spread the word of the Princess’s pregnancy through social media.

The Royal Family announced on their official Instagram page the delightful news and captioned it, “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year. The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”

In the post, the expectant parents were shown on their wedding day from July 2020. Princess Beatrice, 32, and Mozzi, 37, married last summer in a small ceremony of only 20 guests due to the pandemic. The intimate event took place at Windsor Castle and included the parents of the bride and groom, the Queen, and the late Prince Phillip.

The Princess’s sister was also in attendance, of course. And like any good sister, Princess Eugenie took to Instagram congratulating her big sister ‘Bea’ on the pregnancy. To which her brother-in-law commented back: “Thank you. So happy our little family is growing.”

But while this will be Princess Beatrice’s first child, she took on the role of stepmother for some time. Mozzi’s 4-year old son, Wolfie, is from a previous marriage but has been involved in the royal relationship nonetheless. Wolfie was the page boy at the couple’s wedding, travels with the two on family vacations, and continues to be raised by his mother, father, and Princess Beatrice.

“Edo is easily one of the best dads, he is so involved, and Beatrice is already showing that she’s a fantastic step-mummy,” a source told People magazine. “Beatrice is a wonderful and very hands-on stepmom.”

Princess Beatrice is the first grandchild of the monarchy to be a stepmother. Duchess of Cornwall Camilla took on the same role in 2005 after marrying Prince Charles, raising Prince Harry and William. Now, this tradition-blending family is growing bigger, just like Princess Beatrice’s baby bump.

The last year has been difficult for the royal family, especially surrounding the death of Prince Philip in April. Just months before, Duchess Meghan Markle and Prince Harry told their own stories of mistreatment by “the Firm” in a widely-circulated Oprah interview.
