Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their daughter Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor on Friday, June 4. She is the second-born child to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and will be joining brother Archie at home in no time. The arrival of ‘Lili’ is being celebrated around the world, as is her namesake, which honors two members of the Royal Family.

“It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world,” an official statement read on Archewell.com. “She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home.”

Lilibet Diana is named after two of the most influential royals of the 20th century – and in Prince Harry’s life. ‘Lilibet’ refers to the childhood nickname of Queen Elizabeth and what the late Prince Phillip often referred to her as. Her middle name, Diana, honors the late Princess of Wales whom Prince Harry was close to growing up.

Meghan and Harry thanked everyone for the onslaught of messages from friends, family, and fans, sharing how ‘blessed’ they felt with their daughter’s arrival.

“She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family,” the statement read on Archewell.com.

After a long two years of distancing themselves from the Royal Family for a more private lifestyle, the announcement of Lili’s birth came days later than usual. It’s no secret that the Duke and Duchess are doing things on their own terms.

“When we think of her, we think of all the young women and girls around the globe who must be given the ability and support to lead us forward,” the duchess said. “Their future leadership depends on the decisions we make, and the actions we take now to set them up, and set all of us up, for a successful, equitable, and compassionate tomorrow,” Markle stated at the Live Vax concert in May.

The newborn joins a new generation of royals and is the Queen’s 11th great-grandchild. Lilibet is currently eighth in line to the throne and one of the most senior royals to be born overseas. Check out the latest royal family tree and see where Lilibet Diana falls in succession.
