Coldplay danced through an intergalactic city in a music video for the single “Higher Power,” which premiered on June 8 on MTV. The music video gained global recognition as it was broadcasted on MTV Live and even on the ViacomCBS billboard in Times Square.

Audiences can watch as Coldplay frontman Chris Martin explores the colorful trash planet Kaotica from the work of director Dave Meyers. Meyers has worked on music videos with artists like Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, and Travis Scott.

When creating the music video for “Higher Power,” the director envisioned a world of robotic dogs and holograms. Seoul’s Ambiguous Dance Company even depicted a group of dancing aliens. Until the music video’s release, we only saw glimpses of this vision through Instagram reels and poster teasers.

“The video is a metaphor for how, right now, we all feel alienated, far removed from our world, almost like we’re on an alien planet,” Meyers stated, according to Rolling Stone. “And ultimately we find love in the streets and that euphoria shoots us off into the stratosphere of our own energy and higher power.”

Between depictions of a vibrant extraterrestrial city and Martin’s powerful vocals, fans are loving the music video for “Higher Power.”

Since its release last month, “Higher Power” climbed to the third spot on the First Look chart as 75 million fans streamed the song. Coldplay also wowed audiences at American Idol and the 2021 Brit Awards with live renditions of the single.

If you need us, we’ll be busy watching the new music video on repeat. In the meantime, be sure to check out the latest remix of “Higher Power” by Tiësto.
