Taylor Swift: The New NMPA Songwriter Icon of the Year
During the National Music Publishers Association Awards, Taylor Swift was honored as the 2021 Songwriter Icon. When presenting the award, NMPA president David Israelite took note of Swift’s achievements and inspirational advocacy for creators.
On June 9, the NMPA held a virtual awards ceremony in which the legendary Taylor Swift earned the 2021 Songwriter Icon Award. The honor caught the eyes of all Swift’s fans, and within seconds Twitter was flooded with loving and congratulatory messages for the renowned artist.

Taylor did not hesitate to provide a heartfelt acceptance speech for the association and her supporters. “I’m really, really honored to be receiving this award because it honors the part of my job that is so magical and mystical to me, still,” she begins after CEO David Israelite’s gratifying introduction. “I love songwriting so much because there’s an element to it that is still really mysterious- like I think any songwriter will tell you when you get an idea you’re not quite sure where it floated down from, but if you can grab onto that idea and turn it into something, a piece of music, that’s where craftsmanship comes in; that’s where you have the opportunity to learn and to nurture that craft…” Swift adds on before acknowledging all her wonderful mentors.
Did you cry @taylorswift13 when the NMPA told you you’d were getting their icon award? I did. Congrats girl. So immensely proud of you.

Not only did the star receive the NMPA Songwriter Icon Award, but she also took home two additional honors from other ceremonies these past few days. Swift recently won the Grand Award for Special or Variety (The Gracies) and the Best Family Feature (CMT) award. As such an influential individual, it is no surprise that Taylor swept this week’s award events.
Swift has remained busy over the last year, releasing a bunch of hits. Back in April, the singer shocked fans with a re-recorded Fearless album, this time titled Fearless (Taylor’s Version). The album gave a sentimental feeling to listeners, as the first version came out in 2008- time has definitely flown.
The performer also released her album Evermore in December. Evermore has been very successful for Taylor and is even back at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The alternative rock/ folk-pop album is home to many of the icon’s popular songs such as “Willow.” In the meantime, Swift continues to craft her magic, and until more music news is revealed, be sure to check out the video for “Willow” above.
