After taking the world by storm with their Netflix documentary BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky in 2020, K-Pop sensations BLACKPINK announce BLACKPINK: The Movie to hit theaters in August. However, as a part of a newly announced “4+1” project, BLACKPINK appears to be planning something quite big for 2021.

Coming up on their fifth anniversary, BLACKPINK seems to have something big planned for their fandom of BLINKS. June 14 started a series of mysterious posts highlighting an upcoming “4+1” project that the ladies of BLACKPINK are working on. Fans went into a frenzy across social media, trying to figure out what it could all mean. Some fans thought the group thought they could be getting a new member; others felt it could be alluding to the solo projects planned for Lisa and Jisoo. According to a press release from YG Entertainment, “The movie unfolds in various sequences such as ‘Memories Room,’ which shares memories of 5 years after Black Pink’s debut, ‘Beauty’ with intense image cuts of the four members with distinct personalities, and ‘Undisclosed special interview’ to fans.”

Calling it a “vivid live experience,” the upcoming movie will also piece together clips from BLACKPINK’s “The Show” as well as from their 2018 concert “In Your Area.” Fans will also be treated to quite a cinematic experience as “CGV prepared various formats including ‘ScreenX’ which allows the audience to enjoy visuals through a tri-screen placed front and sideways, ‘4DX’ which allows the audience to feel the echo and catharsis of an actual concert, along with a ‘4DX Screen’ which has merits of both special technology screens, which will provide glamorous visuals and immerse the audience”, to give fans the feeling of actually being at a BLACKPINK concert. Fans of the girls expressed how excited they are about the upcoming movie, but some also hoped it would also be available to watch online.

Blackpink has become one of the world’s most popular girl groups, and they continue to achieve success as a group and in solo projects. Rosé broke the record for the fastest K-Pop debut video with one hundred million views on Youtube for her song “On The Ground,” BLACKPINK made waves with their “Kill This Love” back in 2019 and started strong winning awards on Korean music shows shortly after debut in 2016. BLACKPINK: The Movie will be in your area on August 8, playing in theaters across 100 countries. Considering BLACKPINK’s phenomenal track record with releases, these upcoming anniversary plans should only continue showing the world, Lisa, Jennie, Jisoo, and Rosé are, in fact, the revolution.

No trailer for the movie has been released yet, but rewatch the BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky teaser above.
