Buckle up because the iconic black and white-haired villain will make another iconic comeback in a Cruella sequel. Due to the film’s box office success, Cruella, which made its debut on May 28, will be getting a sequel. Over the four-day weekend, the film earned over $26.5 million across North America. Globally, the movie grossed $48.5 million and earned positive reviews.

“We are very pleased with Cruella’s box office success, in conjunction with its strong Disney+ Premier Access performance to date,” a Disney spokesperson said in a statement reported by Deadline. “The film has been incredibly well received by audiences around the world, with a 97% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes in addition to A’s in every demographic from CinemaScore on opening weekend, ranking it among the most popular of our live-action reimagining. We look forward to a long run as audiences continue to enjoy this fantastic film.”

There’s not a lot of information for the sequel except the story might take place in the events between the first film and 101 Dalmatians, Radio Times reported. Emma Stone will reprise her role as the ruthless Cruella De Vil, and her sidekicks Horace (Paul Walter Houser) and Jasper (Joey Fry) will be returning. The Hollywood Reporter also reported Director Craig Gillespie and writer Tony McNamara are expected to work on the films.

Director Gillespie stated that “we’ve only just met” Emma Stone’s Cruella explained during an interview with Collider earlier in the year. “I’d love to now see the full-blown Cruella, fully loaded. She’s managed to get the support system around her and she can really expand on her brand. I’d love to see where that takes her and how you could almost destroy her from inside out, if she’s not careful with all that power,” Gillespie stated.

While there is currently not much information about its sequel, Cruella is currently in theaters and available to watch on Disney+ with Premier Access.
