Zoë Kravitz will be making her directorial debut in Pussy Island, a film she began writing in 2017. Kravitz will be directing Magic Mike star Channing Tatum in the lead role. Pussy Island is a thriller film that Kravitz wrote alongside E.T. Feigenbaum (High Fidelity). Producers of the film include Kravitz herself, Bruce Cohen, Tiffany Persons, and Tatum’s Free Association.

The film will follow Frida, a young and intelligent cocktail waitress eyeing the prize: Slater King (Tatum). Tatum’s role as Slater King has him as a philanthropist and tech mogul. The person playing the role of Frida has not been revealed yet, but her character will successfully become a part of King’s inner circle, jetting to his beautiful private island. Despite the glitz and glamour that surrounds Frida, she knows that there is more to this island. There is something sinister about it, but she cannot place her finger on it just yet.

Kravitz spoke of the playful film and how the story evolved over time, where she reveals, “As a woman in general, and a woman in this industry, I’ve experienced some pretty wild behavior from the opposite sex. The title was kind of a joke at first, this place where people would go, bring women, party, and hang out. The story evolved into something else, but the title wound up having multiple meanings.” She also revealed that Tatum had been her first choice to play Slater King.

Tatum, on the other hand, had been stunned when Kravitz gave him a call. Tatum reveals, “This came out of nowhere and the subject matter made me say, wait, why are you thinking about me for this? No one gives me a chance to play a role like this, everybody throws me down a different alley and expects me to do a certain thing. It was scary and liberating, just to be able to have a free conversation, where I was allowed to mess up and say the wrong things.” Although Tatum had seen Kravitz in her films, he never knew her personally.

Kravitz initially received writing and producing experience working on High Fidelity. Her other roles include Big Little Lies and Divergent. More recently, Kravitz is playing Catwoman in The Batman, opposite Robert Pattinson.

Zoë Kravitz is taking the world by storm. We could not be more excited for Kravitz to step into this new role as a director. Pussy Island will begin production early next year. Be sure to follow both Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum on social media for the latest updates.
