Nicholas Braun & Emilia Jones to Star in ‘Cat Person’ Based on New Yorker Short Story
It was announced Monday that Nicholas Braun (Succession) and Emilia Jones (Locke & Key) will star in the psychological thriller Cat Person. The movie is based on a popular short story of the same name written in 2017 by Kristen Roupenian for The New Yorker.
Much like the short story, the film adaptation of Cat Person follows a short-lived modern romance. It centers around college student Margot and her relationship with Robert, an older man who frequents the movie theater she works at.
“Using Kristen’s excruciatingly well-observed short story about the horrors of dating as the jumping-off point for an actual genre film, Cat Person will explore the hellscape of modern romance and the idea that we have all been the villain in someone else’s story, and the victim in others,” Director Susanna Fogel said in a statement, according to Hollywood Reporter.
Ohh I’ve read the New Yorker short story it’s based on.

It has the potential to be very good
Fogel took on her role soon after the deal was made at the Cannes Market. The director, known best for her work on The Flight Attendant and Booksmart, will work closely with scriptwriter Michelle Ashford (Masters of Sex). StudioCanal and Imperative Entertainment are producing the film.
Heard a movie was being made about this short story I had never of and some people were upset about that and I wondered what the deal was. Ended up finding this great article regarding the female experience and the female writer experience. I’m in. https://t.co/RHvRCW1HNK

Individually, Braun and Jones have been successful in their roles. Braun is currently filming season three of HBO Max’s Succession, where he plays Cousin Greg. Meanwhile, Jones’s latest movie Coda won big at Sundance.
Cat Person is only at its beginning stages of production. For context, check out what Vox had to say about the original story’s viral impact.
