Las Vegas Raiders’ defensive end, Carl Nassib has recently become the first active openly gay NFL player in history. The 28-year-old took to Instagram to courageously share his truth after keeping his sexuality under wraps for 15 years.

Raiders’ defensive end Carl Nassib proudly announces that he is gay in an uplifting Instagram video this past Monday.

Nassib said “I just think that representation and visibility are so important. I actually hope that one day videos like this and the whole coming out process are just not necessary. But until then, I’m going to do my best and do my part to cultivate a culture that’s accepting, that’s compassionate.”

The NFL star will also be donating $100,000 to The Trevor Project, a national organization dedicated to suicide prevention and crisis intervention for LGBTQ youth under the age of 25.

According to ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, since Nassib’s heartwarming announcement, Nassib now has the highest-selling Jersey on Fanatics. Perhaps, this may be perfect timing considering the fact that it’s still Pride month.

In 2016, Nassib earned a nomination for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week after his first NFL game. Four years later, he signed a three-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders worth $25 million.

He continues to touch fans and receive praise, especially for his recent courageous announcement. For more info on The Trevor Project visit their About Us page.
