Loki’s character was already deemed part of the LGBTQ+ community after a file from the first episode, “Glorious Purpose,” marked his sex as fluid. According to Norse mythology, Loki has always been capable of shape-shifting and altering his identity.

But in this most recent episode, Loki confronts his sexuality more explicitly. Loki is found asking Sylvia – his female counterpart and fellow Variant – about her love life.

“How about you? You’re a prince. Must’ve been would-be-princess or perhaps, another prince,” Sylvie asks.

“A bit of both. I suspect the same as you,” Loki replies back.

Before the episode even began, fans suspected that this episode would be different. Singer and LGBTQ+ activist Hayley Kiyoki’s song “Demons” played in the title sequence. The song, which was released in 2019 on National Coming Out Day, has since become an anthem for anyone struggling with their identity.

“Breadth and range of identity contained in the character has been emphasized and is something I was always aware of when I was first cast 10 years ago,” Loki actor Tom Hiddleston told Inverse earlier in June. “I know it was important to Kate Herron and Michael Waldron and to the whole team. And we were very aware, this is something we felt responsible for.”

For now, fans will have to wait and see as Loki explores his identity on the show. But in this last week of Pride month, it is important to acknowledge the depth of one of MCU’s most beloved characters and his coming-out storyline. New episodes of Loki stream each Wednesday on Disney Plus.
